Job summary

Responsible Adult position at Nakusp Early Learning Child Care Centre is on-call relief, reporting to the Child Care Manager under the SD10 school district. The role focuses on supervising children before/after school care, developing activities, maintaining records, and ensuring safety and confidentiality.

Qualifications include Grade 12 plus Responsible Adult coursework or related 20-hour child development training, 1 year of youth/child experience, First Aid and WHMIS certificates.

Responsibilities

  • Establish positive relationships with staff, families and children
  • Maintain attendance, daily plans and activity records
  • Report accidents/incidents to the Child Care Manager promptly
  • Maintain confidentiality and follow safety procedures and emergency plans
  • Support Centre policies and behavioural expectations
  • Assist with general housekeeping as needed
  • Follow relevant policies from school district and licensing regulations
  • Perform other duties as directed by Child Care Manager or District Lead

Responsible Adult - Nakusp Early Learning Child Care Centre

Under the supervision of the Childcare Manager, the Responsible Adult provides general care and supervision for children registered in SD10's school-age care program which provides care before and after school, and during school breaks such as pro-d days and summer. We are looking for Responsible Adults to work on an on-call relief basis.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Implement age-appropriate activities for before and after school care, or other school aged care programs in accordance with daily schedules and program objectives.
  • Guide and assist children in daily activities while fostering and encouraging positive social interactions among students.
  • Establishes positive working relationships with school staff, community partners, families, and children.
  • Maintain appropriate records of attendance, all daily plans and activities.
  • Ensure all accidents/incidents are recorded, and reported in a timely manner to the child care manager.
  • Ensure confidentiality of privileged information.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures, including safety requirements and emergency preparedness.
  • Establish reasonable behaviour expectations consistent with the Centre's policies and program objectives.
  • Assist in general housekeeping requirements.
  • Understand and acts in accordance with relevant policies and procedures from the school, district, Ministry of Education, Child Care Licensing Regulation, and WorkSafeBC.
  • Perform other job-related duties as directed by the Child Care Manager or District Lead for the NELCCC.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Grade 12 plus completion of Responsible Adult Course, or the completion of a course, or a combination of courses, of at least 20 hours duration in child development, guidance, health and safety, or nutrition.
  • Must be at least 19 years of age in accordance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act, Child Care Licensing Regulations.
  • A valid First Aid Certificate.
  • A minimum of 1 year of recent experience working with youth and children.
  • Demonstrated evidence of strong communication skills (verbal, written and electronic formats) and ability to work as part of a team with colleagues, parents and children.
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certificate.

The wage for this position is $28.13/hr as per the Collective Agreement between the Board of School Trustees for School District 10 (Arrow Lakes) and the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 2450.
