Job summary

One Health in Ottawa is seeking dedicated respite workers to support children on the spectrum within our Autism program. You will assess needs, engage youths in age-appropriate activities, and provide relief with emotional regulation while maintaining ethical standards.

Candidates should have a relevant credential, CPI/TCI training, and experience with ABA. Weekend availability and travel may be required in a dynamic community setting.

Qualifications

  • Certificate in Psychology, Social Work, Behavioural Science, Education, Child and Youth Worker, or related field is required.
  • CPI, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training, Crisis Intervention, or TCI and a related degree/diploma are required.
  • 6 months to 1 year experience with ABA techniques (preferred).
  • Ability to work weekends.
  • Experience with children and youth, energetic, creative, and have great play skills.
  • Understanding of developmental disabilities and harm reduction model.
  • Criminal record check clearance.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle if transporting clients.

Responsibilities

  • Assessing the physical and emotional condition of clients.
  • Engaging clients in activities such as socializing, playing games, and reading aloud.
  • Relief and support, emotional regulation.
  • Learning and maintaining ethical standards of practice.
  • Flexible schedule with opportunity for more hours as business grows.
  • Basic hygiene care (changing clothes, diapers, bathroom breaks).
  • Excellent communication skills to interact with patients.
  • Must possess active listening skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work independently when assigned a case.
  • Collaborate with families, healthcare professionals, counselors, and others.
  • Provide life skills training and support youth to achieve goals.
