Job summary

UHN is seeking a Respiratory Therapist to provide 24/7 respiratory therapy services across Intensive Care Units, Emergency Department, OR, and Hyperbaric Medicine Unit. You will collaborate with physicians, nurses and allied health professionals to deliver high-quality patient care in a fast-paced environment.

The role requires graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program, CRTO registration, and supportive experience in adult critical care.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
• Registration with the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists and with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario.

Responsibilities

• Assist with airway management and respond to cardiac/respiratory arrests and transports.
• Administer specialty aerosolized and MDI medications.
• Serve as a resource for nurses and allied health staff in respiratory care.

Job Summary

Respiratory Therapists provide respiratory therapy service 24/7 to patients in the Intensive Care Units, Emergency Department, Operating Rooms, Post Anesthetic Care Rooms, Wards and in other specialty areas such as the Hyperbaric Medicine Unit.

Duties

• Assisting with airway management; responding to all cardiac and respiratory arrest, trauma; attending intra and inter-hospital transports of critically ill patients;
• Administer specialty aerosolized and MDI medications;
• Acting as a resource for the nurses, residents and allied health personnel in Respiratory/Airway related care;
• Participating in teaching patients the use of Respiratory Therapy equipment for both hospital and home care use;
• Performing diagnostic tests such as bedside spirometry, oxygen saturation, blood gas analysis, administering oxygen and other medical gas therapy; assist with bronchoscopies managing all ventilated patients according to departmental ventilation protocols; being an integral member of the healthcare team.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program
• Previous experience as a Respiratory Therapist in Adult Critical Care preferred
• Registration with the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists
• Registered with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario
• Certified Hyperbaric Medical Technologist (CHT) preferred
• Ability to work in a Hyperbaric environment required and Hyperbaric Medicine experience preferred
• Ability to perform without direct supervision
• Commitment to personal and professional development
