Job summary

St. Joseph in Hamilton, Ontario seeks a Registered Respiratory Therapist to evaluate, treat and maintain cardiopulmonary function in critical care wards including L&D, NICU, ED and OR.

The role is a temporary fixed-term position with a 19‑month duration, in-person, with shifts across afternoons, days, evenings and nights. The successful candidate will be a CRTO registered respiratory therapist, capable of arterial line insertion, ABG sampling, ventilator management and bronchoscopies, and will

Qualifications

• Clinical expertise in cardiopulmonary care, ventilator management, airway management, ABG procurement, and diagnostic testing.
• Ability to apply critical thinking to develop and adjust respiratory care plans.
• Excellent communication and teamwork with multidisciplinary staff.

Responsibilities

• Manage ventilated patients via protocols and medical directives.
• Insert arterial lines and procure arterial blood gases.
• Perform airway management including intubation and assist with difficult intubations.
• Assist with bronchoscopies and non-invasive ventilation (BIPAP, SIPAP, Optiflow).
• Administer and monitor inhaled therapies and meds per orders.
• Conduct patient assessments, develop discharge plans, and document care per standards.
• Provide clinical teaching and supervision to learners and staff.
• Maintain equipment and participate in quality improvement projects.

The Registered Respiratory Therapists practices in critical care wards L&D NICU and Emergency Department & Operating Room.The Registered Respiratory Therapist is a Regulated Health Professional under the College of Respiratory Therapists. They adhere to the Standards of Practice set out by the College of Respiratory Therapists. The Respiratory Therapists are authorized to perform five of the controlled acts under the RHPA in the Adult Pediatric and Neonate population.
