Job summary

Trellis Society in Calgary, AB is seeking a dedicated Residential Youth Worker to join our 24/7 development programs. You will build meaningful relationships with youth facing homelessness and other challenges, delivering daily support and life-skills coaching in a trauma-informed, youth-centered setting.

Join a collaborative team, participate in planning activities, and help youth achieve stability and growth while maintaining safety and well-being for program participants.

Qualifications

• Degree or diploma in Human Services with relevant experience.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn new databases.
• Clear verbal and written communication and problem-solving skills.
• Understanding of recovery-oriented and trauma-informed practices.
• Current Standard First Aid and Level C CPR certification.
• Ability to provide a clear Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector search and Child Intervention Record Check.
• Access to a reliable vehicle with a 2M liability insurance and a valid Class 5 Driver's License.

Responsibilities

• Build positive, supportive, therapeutic, and professional relationships with youth and young adults.
• Support youth in developing life skills including budgeting, meal prep, housekeeping, employment readiness, education planning, and community participation.
• Assist youth in setting and achieving goals related to education, employment, housing, wellness, and community connection.
• Respond to crisis situations using trauma-informed, recovery-oriented, and relationship-based approaches.
• Create safe, inclusive environments that promote growth and wellbeing.
• Support daily living activities including cooking, cleaning, budgeting, transportation, and appointment attendance.
• Collaborate with families, caregivers, schools, Children and Family Services, healthcare providers, and community partners.
• Complete case notes, safety plans, incident reports, and other documentation timely.
• Plan and participate in recreational, educational, cultural, and life skills programming.
• Transport clients to appointments, activities, employment opportunities, and events.
• Attend required training opportunities and monthly team meetings.
• Other duties as required.

The Role: Residential Youth Worker (Developmental Wellness Worker)

Trellis Society is seeking passionate and relationship-focused Residential Youth Workers to join our 24/7 Residential and Shelter Programs in Calgary, AB.

This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about supporting youth and young adults experiencing homelessness, housing instability, family conflict, mental health challenges, trauma, and other life circumstances. As a Residential Youth Worker, you will build meaningful relationships, provide daily support, help young people develop life skills, and create opportunities for growth, stability, and success. You will work as part of a collaborative team committed to providing safe, trauma-informed, and youth-centered care.

We strongly encourage applications from Child and Youth Care Workers, Youth Support Workers, Residential Counsellors, Youth Shelter Workers, and professionals with experience supporting adolescents and young adults in residential, community, educational, or shelter settings.

A full-time position generally requires a 36-hour work week, with either three 12-hour shifts per week or four 9-hour shifts and a part-time position generally requires a 16-28 hour work week. Mandatory attendance at monthly team meetings is required.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities:

• Create physically and emotionally safe, inclusive, and supportive environments that promote growth and wellbeing.
  
• Support youth and young adults with daily living activities including cooking, cleaning, budgeting, transportation, and appointment attendance.
• Collaborate with families, caregivers, schools, Children and Family Services, healthcare providers, and community partners.
• Complete case notes, safety plans, incident reports, and other documentation in a timely manner.
• Plan and participate in recreational, educational, cultural, and life skills programming.
• Transport clients safely to appointments, community activities, employment opportunities, and program-related events.
• Attend required training opportunities within the appropriate timeframe and monthly team meetings.
• Other duties as required.

Preferred Experience:

Experience working in one or more of the following settings is considered an asset:

• Child and Youth Care programs
• Community youth programs
• Housing programs
• Family support services
• School-based support services
• Youth mental health programs

Knowledge and Skill Expectations:

• Degree or diploma in Human Services (e.g., Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Addictions, or related field.) with recent relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs and the ability to learn new databases and software systems.
• Concise and clear communication (verbal and written) and problem-solving skills.
• Understanding of recovery-oriented and trauma informed practices.
• Current Standard First Aid and Level C CPR certification.
• Ability to provide a clear Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector search and Child Intervention Record Check.
• Access to a reliable vehicle with a $2M liability insurance and a valid Class 5 Driver's License with at least one year of driving experience.

Reporting Relationship:

This position directly reports to a 24/7 Program Manager.
