ABOUT THE ROLE:

The Residential Underwriter will adjudicate mortgage applications by assessing prospective clients in accordance with the 5 C's (Capacity, Capital, Collateral, Character, and Conditions). The role focuses on assessing risk and ensuring all applications meet quality and service standards.

Additional responsibilities include:

• Making prudent credit decisions on complex mortgage files
• Reviewing, analyzing, and verifying mortgage applications for completeness, accuracy, suitability, and risk to ensure compliance with Home Trust policies and guidelines
• Adhering to compliance obligations including Privacy, Anti-Money Laundering/Anti-Terrorist Financing, and Anti-Fraud policies
• Filing Unusual Transaction Reports as needed
• Analyzing and underwriting residential mortgage applications, assessing borrower, real estate security, and loan terms
• Negotiating, recommending, and approving loan terms within risk appetite
• Maintaining detailed notes on applications
• Preparing and issuing conditional mortgage commitments outlining all conditions to be met

WHAT WE REQUIRE:

• Authorized to work in Canada
• Excellent communication skills
• Post-secondary degree or diploma in business management, finance, or related field (university degree is an asset)
• 3-5 years mortgage lending experience
