Job summary

The Salvation Army in Canada in Winnipeg is seeking a dedicated frontline housing and social services worker to support residents in a secure, compassionate environment. You will handle case management, discharge planning, documentation, and coordination of programming, while liaising with external agencies and sponsors.

A diploma or degree in social services plus 1–3 years frontline experience is expected; an enhanced background check is required.

Qualifications

  • Provide case management and discharge planning for clients/residents.
  • Maintain documentation and incident logs; complete reports for funders.
  • Monitor safety, coordinate resident programming, and crisis intervention.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors the environment and clients/residents to ensure safety and security.
  • Develops and implements case management of assigned clients/residents; assists clients/residents in establishing goals, monitoring progress, and prepares discharge plans.
  • Maintains and updates all appropriate documentation related to clients/residents and initiates any new documentation; completes all reports required by the funder and The Salvation Army.
  • Provides safe storage and recording of prescribed medications.
  • Coordinates and facilitates resident programming as required.
  • Conducts all required shifts change procedures prior to and after shift change.
  • Performs intake and discharge procedures for clients/residents as assigned.
  • Monitors appropriate behavior; intervenes in crisis situations, provides emotional support and advocacy as required.
  • Distributes funds to residents in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Engages in the development of inter-personal relationships that promote dignity and respect.
  • Performs required scheduled check-ins of residents on passes in community; escorts residents in the community when necessary and monitors behavior.
  • Liaises with Police, funders, court personnel, community agencies, families, and other staff members.
  • Provides orientation to newly hired staff, volunteers, students
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Description

The incumbent is responsible for the following range of job duties characteristics:

  • Monitors the environment and clients/residents to ensure safety and security; completes regular client/resident status checks and room searches as required
  • Develops and implements case management of assigned clients/residents; assists clients/residents in establishing goals, monitoring progress, and prepares discharge plans
  • Maintains and updates all appropriate documentation (including in-out and incident logbooks) related to clients/residents and initiates any new documentation; completes all reports required by the funder and The Salvation Army
  • Provides safe storage and recording of prescribed medications
  • Coordinates and facilitates resident programming as required
  • Conducts all required shifts change procedures prior to and after shift change
  • Performs intake and discharge procedures for clients/residents as assigned / assigned
  • Monitors appropriate behavior; intervenes in crisis situations, provides emotional support and advocacy as required
  • Distributes funds to residents in accordance with established guidelines

Note: Not all incumbents perform all of the duties described above but perform a similar range of duties

Minimum Education Level Attained

The successful job applicant will have completed more than two (2) years of Community College.

Note: An alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable

Special Licenses, Diplomas, Certifications Or Requirements

The successful applicant will hold/have: Diploma or Degree in related social services field

Minimum Prior Related Experience

The incumbent must have the following experience before hire: One year but less than three years of prior related experience, including frontline casework experience in a social service environment.

Compensation

The target hiring range for this position is $16.66 to $16.66 with a maximum of $16.66.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
