Job summary

The Salvation Army Canada and Bermuda Territory is seeking a dedicated individual to present a professional image of Hope Acres and help maintain safety and order within the facility. You will support residents, perform clerical duties for client documentation, and assist with orientation and program activities.

Responsibilities include monitoring client activities, coordinating rounds, reporting on client conduct, and supporting staff with referrals and communications.

Qualifications

  • Degree or Diploma in one of the Human Services professions
  • Keyboarding and demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office applications as well as email and internet applications

Responsibilities

  • Make public announcements for clients or staff as necessary
  • Conduct scheduled rounds of all areas of property; be familiar with fire, health and safety procedures; supervise evacuations
  • Monitor client activities in smoking areas as required
  • Take client attendance at scheduled activities
  • Ensure late-night snacks are available
  • Provide accurate conduct reports to Program Coordinator
  • Answer phones and route calls
  • Conduct urine screening as required
  • Check packages for clients returning from off-grounds activities
  • Attend seminars and staff meetings
  • Notify On-Call staff if clients are late or if serious occurrences occur
  • Complete other tasks as required

Job Description:

To present a professional image of Hope Acres to both the public and the residents living within the facility, maintaining a high level of courtesy as well as accurateness in matters of clerical responsibility. To assure the security of the premises, the safety of the residents, and the smooth running of the building.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES
  • To monitor activities of clients as required

  • To provide any requested information, assist with Client orientation to guidelines and schedules

  • To oversee and assist with supervision of clients during daily tasks, as needed

  • To provide support, assistance & encouragement to clients

  • Perform all necessary clerical duties for client documentation (EMHware), log Book entries, sign Out Sheets, visitor information and other required forms

  • To make necessary referrals to other staff as needed

  • To make public announcements for clients or staff as necessary

  • To conduct scheduled rounds of all areas of property and be familiar with all required fire, health and safety measures and procedures. Supervise fire evacuation and safety procedures during shift

  • To monitor client activities in smoking Area as required

  • To take client attendance at scheduled activities as required

  • To ensure that clients’ late-night snack is made available at scheduled time

  • To provide accurate and timely conduct reports on client activity to Program Coordinator

  • To answer, monitor telephone, routing calls to appropriate department(s) and staff

  • To conduct urine screening on clients as required, and at all times when a client returns to the property following a pass

  • To check packages and bags of clients returning from off-grounds activities

  • To attend all seminars, training sessions or staff meetings as required

  • To immediately notify the On-Call staff if clients are late when returning from pass, following a 15-minute grace period. To contact the On-Call staff when any type of serious occurrence takes place

  • Complete other tasks as required

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • Degree or Diploma in one of the Human Services professions

  • Keyboarding and demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office applications as well as email and internet applications

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE OR TRAINING IN:
  • Pleasant, courteous and professional telephone manners

  • Respectful and professional towards clients, public, students and staff

  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality

  • Willingness to learn and accept supervision

  • Networking, referrals and strong knowledge of resources

  • Knowledge and experience with concurrent disorders

  • Knowledge of culturally competent practices

  • Knowledge and experience with data management systems and outcome measurements

  • Awareness and experience with marginalized and vulnerable populations

  • Basic First Aid/CPR Certification an asset

  • Proficient in English language, second language an asset

  • Training as a “Trained Person” under MOE Private Water System regulation and ability to conduct water testing as required.

  • Must have access to reliable transport or vehicle. No public transit available - rural location

Upon hiring, successful candidate must provide:
  • A current Vulnerable Sector Screening acceptable to the Salvation Army.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Office setting, long periods of being seated, using computer, phone systems

  • Little to no travel

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $20.09 to $25.11 with a maximum of $30.13.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
