Job summary

Extendicare is seeking an energetic Activity Aide to help plan, organize and implement meaningful programs for residents in our Canadian long-term care settings. You will assist with outings, activity assessments and daily activities, while maintaining records and contributing to a compassionate, team-oriented environment.

You should have a college diploma in Recreation or related field, plus experience with seniors, strong communication skills and proficiency in Office and care software.

Qualifications

  • College diploma in Recreation, Leisure Studies, Gerontology or equivalent is required.
  • Previous experience working with seniors.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) & other computer applications such as PointClickCare, ActivityPro.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • An energetic, compassionate person who enjoys working with the elderly.
  • Must provide a current Vulnerable Sector Check (Criminal Background Check) or be willing to obtain one.
  • Minimum availability of 4 shifts per month (days 8AM-4PM and/or evenings 12PM-8PM).

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning, organization and implementation of meaningful recreational programs with residents.
  • Maintain department records including assessments, evaluations and participation charts.
  • Communicate effectively with residents, families, volunteers and staff about events.
  • Attend in-service education to stay updated on elderly care trends.
  • Participate in team meetings to plan resident-centered activities.
  • Facilitate scheduled and pre-arranged outings for residents.
  • Assist with resident activity level assessments and daily activity delivery.
  • Assist with meal services as required.
  • Work in a position of trust with vulnerable adults and uphold code of conduct.

Job description

Job Description Mission:

The Activity Aide assists in the planning, organization and implementation of meaningful programs for the residents.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the planning, organization and implementation of meaningful recreational programs for the residents, in collaboration with the Recreation Manager;
  • Assists with the maintenance of appropriate department records including assessments, evaluations of planned programs detailing individual participation, charting;
  • Maintains effective communication and good human relations with residents, families, volunteers and staff of other departments, keeping them informed of current and upcoming events;
  • Attends in-service education in order to keep informed of current trends in the total care of the elderly;
  • Participates in team meetings to plan programs with residents' interest in mind;
  • Facilitating residents to scheduled and pre-arranged outings;
  • Assisting with assessment of individual resident activity levels;
  • Preparing, carrying out and evaluating daily activities;
  • Assisting with meal services as required;
  • Work in a position of trust with vulnerable adults (residents);
  • Uphold and promote the organization's values and philosophy relating particularly to ethics, morality, and integrity as set out in Extendicare's Code of Conduct;
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) & other computer applications i.e. PointClickCare, ActivityPro, etc

  • Must provide a complete and current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check (including a Criminal Background Check) or be willing to obtain one
  • Minimum availability of 4 shifts each month - days(8AM to 4PM) and/or evenings (12PM to 8PM) is required
