Job summary

RhynoCare in Timmins, ON is seeking a Resident Care Assistant (RCA) to work in Long Term Care facilities as an Independent Contractor.

You will observe and support residents, provide 1:1 supervision for behavioural needs, and engage them in meaningful activities while staying close by.

Documentation is required hourly (DOS, BAR) and you will collaborate with the health care team to plan and deliver person-centered care.

Qualifications

• Minimum Grade 11 or equivalent education in Ontario.
• Fluent in English—speaking and documenting.
• PSW certificate or current enrollment considered an asset.
• Experience delivering patient-focused care.
• Ability to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary care team.
• Excellent problem solving, critical thinking and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Observe residents to support a safe, caring environment.
• Ensure safety during violent outbursts and escalate as needed.
• Provide 1:1 supervision for residents with behavioural concerns.
• Engage residents in meaningful 1:1 activities and reminiscence.
• Remain in close proximity during supervision.
• Complete hourly documentation (DOS, BAR) as requested.
• Interact with residents, offer comfort, and facilitate cognitive activities.
• Wear a legible name tag and maintain professional image.
• Assist with activities of daily living under supervision of health professionals.
• Communicate observations to the health care team for care planning.
• Complete required Observers documentation per policy.
• Other duties including high-touch cleaning and related tasks.

About the Opportunity

RhynoCare is seeking a Resident Care Assistant (RCA) to work in Long Term Care facilities in Timmins, ON. You will be hired and onboarded with RhynoCare as an Independent Contractor.

Responsibilities

• Observe the patient(s) assigned so as to support a safe and caring environment for the patient(s).
• Ensure the safety of residents directly relating to violent outbursts of assigned resident, escalating to healthcare staff when necessary
• Provide 1 to 1 compassionate supervision services for residents with behavioural concerns
• Engage residents in meaningful 1:1 activities - i.e. reading stories, looking through photo albums, story telling
• Always staying within close proximity to the resident during supervision
• Completion of documentation as requested by facility: i.e. Dementia Observations Scale (DOS), Behaviour Assessment Record (BAR) charting every hour.
• Interact with the patient, comforting the patient as needed and engaging in cognitively stimulating recreational activities as appropriate.
• Maintaining a Professional Image and always wearing a Name Tag - that is easily legible for the resident and public.
• Under the close or direct supervision of the patient's registered health professionals, provide assistance to the patient with the activities of daily living.
• Communicate their observations with the health care team to facilitate care planning.
• Complete the documentation specifically required of Observers, as per corporate policy and procedure.
• Other duties as assigned (high touch cleaning, filling masks, etc).

Requirements

• Minimum Grade 11 or equivalent education as recognised by the Ministry of Education, Province of Ontario
• Must be fluent in speaking and documenting in English.
• Successful completion of (or current enrollment in) accredited Personal Support Worker certificate considered an asset
• Demonstrated experience and delivery of patient focused care
• Demonstrated ability to perform effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary care team
• Excellent problem solving, critical thinking and communication skills

Compensation

• Pay: $19/ hour
