The Canadian Institute for Safety, Wellness, and Performance (CISWP) seeks a Researcher to conduct field and lab data collection on Work and Health, Ergonomics, and related topics. You will recruit participants, develop webinars and publications, and contribute to knowledge translation.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Human Factors & Ergonomics, Kinesiology, Health Studies, Biomechanics, Occupational Health & Safety, Occupational Epidemiology, or related field is required.
• Thesis completed during master's studies is required.
• Strong knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research.
• Experience with surveys, interviews, and collecting self-reported data.
• Excellent oral and written communication.
• Self-direction and reliability when working independently or in small teams away from the office.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel within Saskatchewan.

Responsibilities

Salary Range: Typical hiring range $70,000 - $80,000 per annum – 37.5 hours/week

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Director of Operations, the Researcher will work on various research projects in the areas of Work and Health, Ergonomics, Anthropometry, and Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI). The Researcher will demonstrate experience and/or research interest in ergonomics, anthropometry, and prevention of workplace injuries. The incumbent will be responsible for field data collection, the recruitment of research participants at partner sites, and the development of webinars, presentations, and published scholarly works.

Work Location and Schedule

• Work must be conducted within Saskatchewan
• Regular schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.*
• On-site at CISWP office in Saskatoon; and at field collection sites across Saskatchewan
• This position will require travel within Saskatchewan for field data collection

*Note: Data collection takes place during research participant’s scheduled work shifts which varies depending on the occupation or trade of the worker.

Key Responsibilities

Research Project Execution

• Conduct qualitative and quantitative data collection, including fieldwork, surveys, interviews, and laboratory-based measurements
• Conduct data analysis and interpretation
• Participate on field data collection teams through the facilitation of strong research processes and team strategies
• Collaborate with the field research team and data analysis team to collect data reliably and effectively
• Recruit, prepare, and educate research participants on CISWP projects and initiatives
• Compile data and supporting materials for interim and final project reports
• Mentor Research Technicians as they develop their understanding of research equipment, processes, and knowledge translation activities
• Field research readiness including working in varied industrial, healthcare, or construction environments and following site-specific safety requirements (PPE, WHMIS, site inductions)
• Adapt and problem-solve on-the-spot when weather or equipment behave unexpectedly

Research Logistics and Resource Development

• Create project schedules, timelines, and experimental design
• Identify, prepare, calibrate, and source equipment and supplies
• Host equipment and tool training for colleagues and lead the development of equipment protocols and processes for CISWP research projects
• Help to ensure research equipment is properly maintained, stored, and ready for use
• Propose new research equipment and/or tools for continued advancement in CISWP research projects

Knowledge Dissemination

• Prepare technical content for Knowledge Transfer and Exchange (KTE) materials acting as a subject matter expert
• Contribute to KTE through the development of scientific publications, webinars, presentations, and other scholarly works
• Take part in health and safety events to demonstrate the impact of CISWP projects in the Canadian workforce
• Contribute to research success stories related to CISWP projects

Research Engagement and Collaboration

• Facilitate and attend meetings with industry, government, and/or academic partners as required
• Support collaborative research initiatives and stakeholder engagement activities
• Facilitate group tours or presentations with industry, government, and/or academic partners
• Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

• Research-based Master's degree in Human Factors & Ergonomics, Kinesiology, Health Studies, Biomechanics, Occupational Health & Safety, Occupational Epidemiology, or a related field of study is required
• Research thesis completed during master’s studies is required
• A strong knowledge base of qualitative and quantitative research
• A strong and successful track record participating in complex research projects
• Strong computer skills, including software for quantitative, qualitative, and statistical analysis
• Excellent oral and written communication, including the ability to explain procedures and obtain cooperation on site
• Experience with surveys, interviews, and collecting self-reported data
• Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with workers, employers, and site contacts
• Self-direction and reliability when working independently or in small teams away from the office
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• A valid drivers license and the ability to travel within Saskatchewan on a frequent basis

Assets

• Experience in using field-based ergonomic equipment, including wearable sensors and portable instrumentation, and the ability to troubleshoot, process, analyze, and interpret signals using specialized software is considered an asset
• Field data collection experience considered an asset
