Job description

Research Technician for the CHANTS Study

Are you interested in novel clinical research in the field of infectious disease?

We are seeking an enthusiastic Research Technician with laboratory experience to work on the laboratory analyses of clinical samples from the CHANTS study, which involves the first human challenge model for non-typhoidal Salmonella (NTS).

What you will do

You will be a key member of a multidisciplinary team, collaborating with Research Associates, Clinical Fellows, Research Nurses, and other scientists to process and analyze samples from infected participants. Your primary responsibilities will include performing assays to analyze immune responses stimulated by NTS infection in experimentally infected volunteers. Techniques used will include serological, cellular immunology, and molecular methods to identify inflammatory and immune responses correlating with disease and protection, under supervision. Key procedures include bacterial and cell culture, ELISA, quantitative PCR, and data analysis.

You will need to plan and execute experiments to a high standard, maintain accurate records, and present findings to colleagues. You will also contribute to writing research reports and publications.

What we are looking for
  • Experience working in a research laboratory with clinical trial samples.
  • Knowledge of relevant laboratory techniques and Good Laboratory Practice, preferably with familiarity with Good Clinical Practice.
  • A relevant degree with a good understanding of infection, immunology, and cell biology.
What we offer
  • The opportunity to advance your career at a world-leading institution committed to using science for humanity.
  • A sector-leading salary and benefits package, including 39 days of annual leave and a generous pension scheme.
  • Workplace benefits such as flexible working, family leave, on-site leisure facilities, and a cycle-to-work scheme.
  • Interest-free season ticket loans.
  • A diverse, inclusive, and collaborative work culture supported by staff networks and wellbeing resources.
