Research Librarian – Law Library

The Research Librarian manages our library resources consisting of books and other print collections, and online and internal databases, as well as providing critical support to our legal team by providing training, guidance, and support on research and reference questions.

Location: This position is In-Office. Downtown Dartmouth, BOYNECLARKE LLP

Reporting To: Chief Strategy & Legal Officer (CSLO)

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing external databases and user access to them.
  • Creating and maintaining internal research databases, ensuring thorough and accurate indexing.
  • Maintaining complete print collection, including buying and cataloguing books.
  • Conducting training and orientation on research and reference best practices, accessing and utilizing databases, etc.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to determine legal library needs.
  • Negotiating contracts/pricing for databases and other reference resources.

What You Bring

  • Experience: 2+ years as a Research Librarian with specific legal library experience. Graduate of an ALA accredited program considered an asset.
  • Skills: Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and time management, as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities.
  • Mindset: Self-motivated and proactive with a positive attitude, excited to contribute to a collaborative culture.
  • Tech Proficiency: Highly adept at using technology such as Outlook and the full Microsoft Suite, with a talent for learning new software quickly.
