Job summary

Brock University is seeking an Animal Care Technician to oversee day-to-day care of animals in university research facilities. Working with veterinary staff, you will ensure ethical care and compliance with regulations for animals used in biomedical research or teaching.

Qualifications

• Diploma in Veterinary Technology or equivalent.
• RLAT eligibility within 2 years.
• Experience in regulated research/education facility.
• Knowledge of CCAC and OMAFRA regulations relating to animal care.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine animal husbandry for all species.
• Receive animals from supplier and conduct initial health screening.
• Complete cage cards with animal information.
• Maintain breeding colonies and keep records of activities.
• Provide animal care policy information to others.
• Assist with animal use-training program and evaluations.
• Provide surgical assistance and post-surgical monitoring.
• Review facility SOPs to ensure regulatory compliance.
