Job summary

The University of Ottawa is seeking a veterinary technician to support the Animal Care and Veterinary Service, delivering daily clinical care and preventive veterinary services across lab animals. The role requires collaboration with veterinarians to ensure welfare and compliance at the main campus ACVS facilities.

Candidates should have a CVMA-recognized Vet Tech diploma, at least two years of relevant experience, and strong written communication.

Qualifications

Diploma from CVMA-recognized Veterinary Technical program.
Minimum of two years of relevant experience.
Bachelor of Science or related degree desirable.
CALAS certification desirable.
Knowledge of laboratory animal species and disease recognition.
Knowledge of veterinary techniques and procedures.
Experience in private practice or industry.
Strong communication and writing skills.
Willingness to work after hours and holidays.
Bilingual in French and English.

Responsibilities

Provide first-line veterinary care and initiate/adjust treatments in consultation with a veterinarian.
Assist with preventive veterinary medicine including physical exams and vaccinations.
Support research groups with in vivo study technical support and data collection.
Adhere to regulatory guidelines and safety standards across all activities.
