Description

Bloorview Research Institute at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital is seeking a research engineer with expertise in machine learning/generative AI/data science. He/she/they will develop innovative algorithms that will improve the quality of MRI images that have been deemed unfit for use likely due to increased noise and ringing artifacts associated with movement within the MRI scanner.

Our lab is committed to fostering a climate of equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility. This commitment is central to, and mutually supportive of, our research excellence mandate. We welcome and respect the diversity of all members of our community and we support an inclusive culture for our clients, families, research scientists, staff, participants, trainees, volunteers, trustees, and partners. We are committed to fair assessment of a candidate's abilities, and consideration for diversity of thought, method, and experience, including non-traditional career paths. Accommodation will be provided in all parts of the hiring process where needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement generative AI models to enhance or analyze medical imaging data, with a focus on reproducibility and scalability
  • Design and maintain robust Python-based pipelines for processing, analyzing, and visualizing MRI and related neuroimaging datasets
  • Evaluate generative model performance using appropriate metrics and contribute to ongoing improvements in model fidelity and clinical relevance
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams of MRI scientists, clinicians, and researchers to integrate AI models into neurodevelopmental and mental health studies
  • Document code, experiments, and workflows in a clear, reproducible manner, and contribute to research publications, presentations, and open-source repositories as appropriate

Qualifications

  • Master's or PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Neuroscience, or a related field
  • Strong programming skills in Python, with experience using deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow, and scientific libraries like NumPy, Pandas, and scikit-learn
  • Hands-on experience with generative AI models, including GANs, VAEs, or diffusion models, and familiarity with key evaluation metrics
  • Applied knowledge of medical or neuroimaging data, with experience working with multi-dimensional image formats (e.g., NIfTI, MINC) would be an asset
  • Ability to build and optimize end-to-end machine learning pipelines, including data preprocessing, model training, and performance evaluation, ideally in research or healthcare applications
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including scientists, clinicians, and engineers
