We're seeking a Research & Development Associate who is curious, detail-oriented, adaptable, and excited to contribute to the development and certification of innovative PPE products.

About the role:

Reporting to the R&D Manager, the Research & Development Associate supports research projects, product development, testing, validation, certification, and technical documentation. This role works across the product development lifecycle—from researching raw materials and developing prototypes to conducting laboratory and production trials, analyzing results, and supporting regulatory certification of new and improved products.

Location:

This position is based in Acton, Ontario, Canada and will work within office, laboratory, and manufacturing environments.

The successful candidate must be willing and able to travel to other Superior Glove locations in North and Central America as required, which may occasionally include extended stays.

Responsibilities:
  • Support assigned R&D projects involving new PPE concepts, materials, products, and manufacturing technologies.
  • Conduct laboratory trials, formulation development, prototype preparation, pilot-scale trials, product testing, validation, and data analysis.
  • Perform testing and analysis of incoming raw materials and support required production quality‑control testing.
  • Research raw materials and potential suppliers, coordinate samples for testing, and collaborate with vendors throughout the development process.
  • Work closely with internal development and manufacturing teams to ensure prototypes and finished products meet performance expectations.
  • Prepare and maintain technical reports, test results, project documentation, product records, and regulatory certification documentation.
  • Support product compliance and certification activities, including coordination with external certification and regulatory organizations.
  • Maintain, calibrate, and properly use laboratory equipment while supporting chemical compounding and trial preparation in accordance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
  • Explore and apply AI tools and automation to improve testing, data analysis, laboratory processes, and operational efficiency.
  • Coordinate and support internal training related to new technologies, products, testing methods, and innovations.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and compliant laboratory and work environment while following established procedures and safety requirements.
  • Perform other duties and travel as required.
Qualifications:
  • Diploma or degree in Chemical Engineering Technology or a related post‑secondary program; education in Polymer Technology or Engineering is considered an asset.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in a similar role, preferably within a laboratory, R&D, product development, or production environment.
  • Familiarity with common laboratory equipment, testing procedures, chemical compounding, and laboratory practices.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret test results, analyze data, troubleshoot issues, and prepare clear technical reports.
  • Experience with technical writing and regulatory or product certification documentation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook; experience with Excel Macros, VB, AutoCAD, and AI tools is considered an asset.
  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, problem‑solving, and continuous improvement skills.
  • Valid driver's license and passport, with the ability and willingness to travel to Superior Glove locations throughout North and Central America as required.
