Job summary

University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon seeks a Research Associate for the INTERACT study within Community Health & Epidemiology. You’ll manage day-to-day research activities, coordinate data collection and analysis, help with grant writing, and contribute to manuscripts and knowledge translation outputs.

You will report to the Principal Investigator and work on a multi-year project with closest collaboration to researchers and students, based on campus.

Qualifications

• Two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Graduate degree preferred.
• Computer experience including MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Effective oral and written communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Demonstrated ability to compose and write reports and materials clearly and concisely.

Research Associate - INTERACT, Community Health & Epidemiology

Primary Purpose: This is research associate and project management role for the INTERACT study. The study is about the health and social impact of the incoming Bus Rapid Transit system in Saskatoon and the light rail system in Ottawa. Tasks include managing day-to-day research and administrative activities for the project, supporting grant writing, coordinating between researchers, and helping with publishing knowledge translation and academic outputs.

Nature of Work: This role with be the lead staff person, in collaboration with researchers and students for the INTERACT research team. This individual will be responsible for managing activities of the research projects of the, including administration (i.e. budget management and bi-annual funder reports), data collection/analysis (i.e. leading measurement sessions, and possible contribution to grant and manuscript writing. The coordinator will work out of the SPHERU offices at the University of Saskatchewan and will report directly to Daniel Fuller, principal Investigator. Typical Duties or Accountabilities:

• Coordinates the development, management and operation of complex research activities including maintaining a large data set and oversees participant retention activities;
• Reviews, updates and participates in the development of data collection methodologies, instruments and databases;
• Provides training to staff involved in data collection and analysis;
• Oversees, prepares and participates in data collection;
• Negotiates procedures and timelines with external agencies involved in data collection;
• Contributes to the writing of reports, scientific abstracts, presentations, and manuscripts;
• Conducts literature reviews and summarizes relevant literature;
• Prepares ethics application renewals and assists with grant applications;
• Assists with project budget management by processing financial requisitions, tracking and projecting project expenditures;
• Coordinates and attends meetings and presents research findings;
• Builds positive relations with participants, community and external partners.

Education

• University degree in a research-related field, master’s level preferred.

Experience
