Qualifications
MINIMUM FORMAL EDUCATION/TRAINING:
- Bachelor’s degree in psychology or neuroscience, or a related area of study, including psychology lab techniques required,
OR
- Completion of a Community College course in a related discipline with one year of directly-related psychiatric research experience is required.
EXPERIENCE:
- A minimum of 6 months of research assistant experience in a psychology lab is required.
- Prior experience working as a research assistant in a severe psychopathology research lab is strongly preferred.
- Prior experience working with adults with severe and persistent psychiatric disorders and/or intellectual disabilities/cognitive impairments is strongly preferred.
- Prior experience collecting data from human research subjects is strongly preferred.
- Prior experience with recruitment of human research subjects is strongly preferred.
- Prior exposure to standardized assessments used in clinical research studies, including interviews and cognitive assessment batteries (e.g., SCID, RBANS) is strongly preferred.
- Prior exposure to EEG research methods, including subject preparation and data acquisition, is strongly preferred.
- Prior experience working with a multi-person research team is strongly preferred.
- Prior experience assisting with preparation of REB protocols is strongly preferred.
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with diverse groups are required.
- Ability to assist with preparation and submission of Research Ethics Boards (REBs) documentation and ensure compliance with on-going submissions including amendments and annual approval, protocol deviations, safety reports is required.
- Ability to work as part of a team is required.
- Organization, multi-tasking, time management, problem-solving skills, and attention to details are required.
- Demonstrated ability to use computer software related to word processing (e.g. Microsoft Office, Outlook) is required.
- Demonstrated ability in a Psychology lab setting is required.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends on occasion is required.
- A satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
Key responsibilities
Participant recruitment and scheduling activities:
- Respond to inquiries from potential participants about study participation.
- Conduct brief screening assessments to screen for exclusionary conditions.
- Schedule potential participants for initial and follow-up study visits.
- Develop study advertisements and post the advertisements.
- Coordinate with Shared Health clinical staff for recruitment activities.
- Participate in training to learn how to administer and score the study assessments in a reliable and valid manner.
- Under close supervision, collect and score interview, cognitive, and EEG data from research participants.
- Participate in weekly supervision and consensus meetings with the PI to review scoring and for quality assurance of the study assessments.
Data verification and entry activities:
- Verify accuracy of scoring of the study assessments.
- Enter research data into an electronic data capture platform.
Clerical activities and meetings:
- Assist with preparation of a Standard Operating Procedures manual for the study.
- Prepare brief reports regarding participant recruitment and retention for project meetings.
- Monitor stock of consumable research supplies and prepare supply order requests.
- Participate in weekly lab meetings, monthly multi-site project meetings, and additional project meetings as necessary.
- Other duties as assigned.
