New

The Research Assistant II will be working with Women’s College Hospital’s Centre for Headache, reporting to Dr. Christine Lay. The Centre for Headache is Ontario's first headache centre in an academic setting, and provides state of the art services and clinical care to help patients appropriately manage headaches and improve their quality of life. The Research Assistant II will assist with several research studies underway at the Centre for Headache. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, recruitment of study participants (e.g. identify and screen potential subjects, obtain informed consent), data collection and coordination of datasets as per study protocol, and study-related administrative tasks, such as support and monitoring of study progress, creation and maintenance of study files, ethics submissions, and meeting facilitation. The Research Assistant II will work closely with the Principal Investigators, senior Research Coordinator and stakeholders to assist with multiple clinical research studies at the Centre for Headache.

Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in headache and/or neurologic research, patient-oriented research, and clinical trials. We are seeking a candidate who is comfortable working in a team environment as well as independently, and interested in leading new studies and projects.

Summary Of Duties, But Not Limited To

  • Supports the investigators and team members by assisting with various study activities within the Centre for Headache, from retrospective chart reviews to clinical trials
  • Performs aspects of research protocol in accordance with specified objectives (participant recruitment, data collection, bio specimen collection, preparing data for analyses, etc.)
  • Monitors the progress and deadlines of research activities, develops and maintains records of research activities, and assists with preparing operating policies and procedures
  • Good understanding of research design and research ethics
  • Prepares detailed notes of all interactions with participants
  • Completes data entry and quality control ensuring the accuracy and integrity of data collection; investigate missing or invalid data and prepare data sets; assist in the analysis of qualitative and quantitative data and the interpretation of results
  • Participate in review of data collection strategies; Completes review of medical records to collect research data
  • Help maintain research files to store, access, and retrieve study data as specified at one or more sites
  • Assist team members with preparing materials for proposals, progress reports, presentations, and publications
  • Plans, designs and organizes scoring procedures and computer databases (REDCap) for ongoing and new research studies
  • Provides assistance with the modification and maintenance of electronic and paper information, filing/retrieval methods, systems and/or formats
  • Maintain regulatory documents
  • Act as a primary contact person for research participants, conducting telephone, online, or in-person recruitment interviews to collect study participant data including obtaining informed consent
  • Liaise with sponsors for monitoring/audits of clinical trials.
  • May perform computer statistical analysis
  • Generate response curves, status reports and other statistical reports as required
  • Assist in the preparation and submission of study applications to the Research Ethics Board, track ethics approvals, and complete renewals/amendments as required
  • Provide functional supervision to Research Trainees. Research Assistant Is or Volunteers
  • Communicates with Research Coordinator and/or Principal Investigator to provide updates
  • Schedules and attends research meetings, including preparing agendas and meeting minutes
  • Prioritizes and monitors various study deadlines
  • Provides other administrative support as required, including filing, photocopying, acquiring signatures and CV maintenance

Qualifications/Skills

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in a related field or one to three years of equivalent experience
  • Experience in a health research setting, or Headache/Neurology-related research, preferred
  • Ability to work independently with excellent problem-solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Work efficiently under pressure with strong judgement and decision-making skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Well-developed interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Mastery of MS Office applications including Excel, Outlook, Access and Word an asset
  • Computer competency including familiarity with databases (REDCap, MS Access) and data management
  • Demonstrated record of good performance and acceptable attendance will be considered as part of the selection criteria
  • Professional behaviour and communication that meets the standards of the professional regulatory college or association, as applicable, and the standards of Women’s College Hospital
  • This position plays a critical role in acting as an advocate for safety and will demonstrate principles, practices and processes that will optimize a safe environment for all
