Job summary

GEA in Canada is seeking a repair mechanic and balancer to perform manual repair operations, reassembly, and dynamic balancing of centrifuge equipment and assemblies, ensuring parts meet dimensional, quality, and balancing requirements.

Responsibilities include assembling and fitting centrifuge bowls, repairing and fabricating parts with hand tools and machines, grinding and finishing surfaces, and documenting measurements and quality checks to comply with safety and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• Mechanical knowledge and experience with rotating industrial equipment.
• Ability to read technical manuals and blueprints and use precision measuring tools.
• Strong diagnostics and troubleshooting skills with attention to safety.

Responsibilities

• Assembly and fitting of centrifuge bowls and assemblies.
• Repair, modify and fabricate parts using hand tools and metalworking machines.
• Grind and finish parts to required surface standards; measure and document finishes.
• Balance rotating assemblies and perform safety runs on bowls as needed.
• Disassemble/reassemble bowls; verify balance repeatability and document results.
• Maintain a clean workspace and comply with QHSE rules and paperwork.

Job description

The repair mechanic & balancer is responsible for manual repair operations, reassembly, and dynamic balancing of centrifuge equipment & assemblies. The mechanic performs precision mechanical work on rotating equipment and ensures that repaired components meet defined dimensional, quality, and balancing requirements

Your responsibilities and tasks

• Assembly and fitting of new and used centrifuge bowls assemblies
• Repairs, modifies and manufactures parts using hand tools or metal working machines such as manual milling machines or drill presses and fits them to the assembly.
• Grinds parts to correct surface imperfections, remove burrs or blend weld seams. Polishes parts used in critical pharmaceutical or biotechnology processes to required surface finish per drawing. Measures and documents surface finishes on parts.
• Balancing of new or used centrifuge rotating assemblies as described in technical documents such as drawings, technical bulletins or written instructions.
• Performs safety run on bowls as required
• Checks the correct functioning of the bowl’s hydraulic system.
• Disassembles and re-assembles bowl assemblies and checks repeatability of balance values.
• Reviews and completes required documentation and administrative paperwork in a timely manner.
• Maintains a clean and organized work environment. Follows all applicable QHSE rules and regulatory requirements
• Fulfills additional duties as assigned by supervisor.

Education and Experience:

• High School Diploma or GED – good foundation in math, physics and mechanical properties
• Technical or Vocational training
• Associate Degree in mechanical Engineering or industrial maintenance (optional but beneficial)

Your profile and qualifications

• Mechanical knowledge and experience.
• Mechanical trade, machining, maintenance, or equivalent technical background.
• Experience working with rotating industrial equipment is strongly preferred.
• Experience with dynamic balancing of rotating units is preferred.
• Proficiency with precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, bore gauges, and other measuring tools.
• Reading technical manuals and blueprints
• Diagnostics and Troubleshooting – Identifying mechanical, and vibrational related issues.
• Disassembly & Reassembly – Properly dismantling, inspecting and reassembling mechanical components.
• Being familiarized with the Metric system and being able to handle several conventional high precision measuring devices.
• Good technical communicational skills (spoken and written).
• Experience using electronic devices such as measuring arms, computers and Microsoft office tools.
• Safety awareness
