About the Role

Our client is seeking a talented and detail-oriented Remote Solar PV Design Engineer to join their national team. This position is fully remote, allowing you to contribute to exciting solar energy projects across South Africa from your home office. You will be responsible for the electrical design of photovoltaic (PV) systems, from small-scale residential installations to large commercial and utility-scale projects. This role requires a strong understanding of electrical principles, solar technology, and relevant design software, coupled with the ability to work autonomously and collaborate effectively in a virtual environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Design electrical systems for solar PV projects, including array layouts, inverters, combiners, and wiring diagrams.
• Perform load calculations, voltage drop analysis, and interconnection studies.
• Select appropriate solar components (panels, inverters, mounting systems) based on project requirements and site conditions.
• Utilize specialized software (e.g., AutoCAD, PVSyst, Helioscope) for system design and energy modeling.
• Prepare detailed design documents, including schematics, single-line diagrams, and bill of materials.
• Ensure designs comply with national electrical codes, safety standards, and utility interconnection requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in designing solar PV systems.
• Proficiency with solar design software such as PVSyst, AutoCAD, and Helioscope.
• Solid understanding of electrical principles, AC/DC systems, and NEC/SANS electrical codes.
• Familiarity with battery energy storage systems (BESS) is a plus.
