Job summary

Jobgether in Canada seeks a Senior Microsoft Windows SQL Server DBA to own enterprise database environments supporting mission-critical applications. You will serve as the technical authority for SQL Server, blending database administration with application performance engineering.

You will partner with developers and infrastructure teams to ensure secure, high-performing databases, lead incident responses, and mentor junior DBAs in a complex enterprise setting.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of hands-on SQL Server database administration experience in large-scale production environments.
• Expert-level proficiency with Microsoft SQL Server 2019 and 2025 on Windows Server 2019/2022.
• Advanced T-SQL skills including query optimization and performance troubleshooting.
• Experience with Always On Availability Groups and WSFC in enterprise environments.
• Familiarity with ITIL change, incident, and problem management processes.

Responsibilities

• Architect, install, configure, and maintain SQL Server 2019/2025 and Azure SQL Database in multi-server Windows environments.
• Lead end-to-end application performance engineering by analyzing execution plans and optimizing queries with development teams.
• Monitor database and application performance using DMVs, Extended Events, Wait Statistics, and Query Store.
• Establish SLA-aligned alerting baselines and proactive issue resolution.
• Design and test backup/recovery strategies with RTO/RPO targets.
• Architect high-availability and disaster-recovery solutions (Always On, WSFC, Log Shipping).
• Govern security with RBAC, auditing, encryption, and regulatory requirements.
• Lead capacity planning and storage forecasting with infrastructure teams.
• Review schema migrations and deployment scripts before production deployment.
• Automate routine DBA tasks with PowerShell and SQL Server Agent.
• Manage patching and upgrades through formal change management processes.
• Mentor junior DBAs and contribute to runbooks and documentation.
• Serve as senior escalation point for Severity 1 outages and post-incident reviews.
