Job summary

OS Institute in Brampton, Ontario, is seeking a SQL Server DBA to manage Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL MI in a hybrid setup with three days in the office.

The role focuses on performance tuning, high availability and disaster recovery, backups, and ETL work with SSIS and ADF, plus Java/Spring Boot integration and REST APIs for enterprise apps.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of SQL Server DBA and Database Development experience.
• Azure SQL Managed Instance (SQL MI), T-SQL Programming.
• Query Optimization & Performance Tuning.
• Database Security & Monitoring.
• 2+ years of Java and Spring Boot development experience.
• Experience with REST APIs and Microservices.
• Exposure to Azure DevOps, Git, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Administer and support Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL Managed Instance environments.
• Monitor database performance, availability, security, and capacity.
• Implement and manage HA/DR solutions including Always On Availability Groups, replication, backup, and recovery.
• Perform database patching, upgrades, migrations, and maintenance activities.
• Troubleshoot production issues related to performance, locking, blocking, and connectivity.

Role Descriptions:

Key Responsibilities

• Administer and support Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL Managed Instance environments.
• Monitor database performance, availability, security, and capacity.
• Implement and manage HA/DR solutions including Always On Availability Groups, replication, backup, and recovery.
• Perform database patching, upgrades, migrations, and maintenance activities.
• Troubleshoot production issues related to performance, locking, blocking, and connectivity.

Database Development

• Design and develop T-SQL objects including Stored Procedures, Functions, Views, and Triggers.
• Optimize SQL queries, indexing strategies, and execution plans.
• Develop and support ETL processes using SSIS and Azure Data Factory (ADF).
• Collaborate with application teams to ensure database design follows best practices.
• Develop, enhance, and support Java-based applications using Spring Boot.
• Build REST APIs and microservices supporting enterprise applications.
• Integrate Spring Boot applications with SQL Server and Azure SQL MI databases.
• Participate in application troubleshooting, performance optimization, and production support.
• Support CI/CD deployments and development best practices.
• Spring Boot experience is desirable but not the primary focus of this role.
