GitLab is seeking an Intermediate Backend Engineer to help build the Duo Agent Platform within our monolith (Ruby) and AI Gateway (Python). You’ll work with engineers across AI and product teams to deliver secure, well-tested features that enable AI agents across the software delivery lifecycle.

Formación

• Experience building and maintaining production Ruby on Rails applications with APIs and data models.
• Comfort across the stack; familiarity with Python backends and/or Vue frontends is a plus.
• Strong design of REST/GraphQL APIs with scalable, maintainable contracts.
• Genuine interest in AI and experience shipping AI-powered backend features is a plus.
• Proven SQL experience with PostgreSQL and efficient data modeling.
• Ability to find and fix performance bottlenecks and write clear docs.

Responsabilidades

• Develop, ship and maintain features for the Duo Agent Platform in the GitLab monolith (Ruby) and AI Gateway (Python).
• Collaborate with Product, UX, frontend, backend and AI teams to refine requirements and ship improvements.
• Design, implement and review GraphQL and REST APIs with reliable contracts.
• Improve automated testing (RSpec and others) to speed up feedback and quality.
• Share patterns and learnings to promote responsible AI integration and robust engineering.
• Join Tier 2 on-call rotations to troubleshoot production issues and improve observability.
