Job summary

YWCA Toronto is hiring Relief Childcare Workers for the Bergamot Early Learning Centre in North Etobicoke. Three roles offer flexible hours between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm, Monday to Friday, at $26.24 per hour.

You will support program delivery, safety, and daily documentation for children aged 0–4. Required are an ECE assistant certificate or equivalent, high school completion, and 1–3 years of relevant experience.

Qualifications

• An Early Childhood Education Assistant Certificate or recognized equivalent required; high school completion required (Cases for Equivalency will be considered).
• Early Childhood Education diploma an asset.
• 1-3 years’ experience working with children 0-4 years of age.
• Experience with children with special needs is an asset.
• Willingness to work with a team and independently.
• Standard First Aid and Infant Child CPR (Level C).
• Second language an asset.
• Willing to work flexible hours within the hours of 7a.m. to 6 p.m. day Monday to Friday.

Responsibilities

• Follows age-appropriate daily routines for the children in accordance with the philosophy of the program.
• Works as part of a team with program staff and volunteers to provide an integrated program that enhances development.
• Implements a program geared to the needs of the children with concerns for their interests, special needs, strengths and pace of learning.
• Works with the children in a group while maintaining sensitivity to each child’s individual needs.
• Ensures Health and Safety Guidelines are followed in accordance with policies and procedures.
• Notifies appropriately of child abuse as required by policy and law.
• Records a daily log and submits weekly statistical records.

The Relief Childcare Worker is responsible for assisting in the implementation of the Child Care Program in accordance with the goals of the department and the overall Association.
ABOUT BERGAMOT EARLY LEARNING CENTRE
YWCA Bergamot is a 68-unit apartment building with an Early Learning Centre in North Etobicoke for single women, gender-diverse people, women-led and gender-diverse people led families in need of permanent, affordable, supportive housing. The Bergamot ELC is a Centre of excellence for early childhood development and licensed for 62 children ages 0 to 4. YWCA Bergamot demonstrates YWCA Toronto’s commitment to creating quality, affordable housing in which women, gender-diverse people and their children realize their dreams and move forward in their lives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Implements a program geared to the needs of the children with concerns for their interests, special needs, strengths and pace of learning;
• Works with the children in a group while maintaining sensitivity to each child’s individual needs;
• Ensures that the Health and Safety Guidelines are followed in accordance with the policies and procedures of the funders and YWCA Toronto;
• Ensures appropriate notification of child abuse as required by the Child and Family Services Act in accordance with YWCA Toronto policies and procedures;
• Records a daily log and submits weekly statistical records, as required.

QUALIFICATION

• An Early Childhood Education Assistant Certificate or recognized equivalent required; high school completion required (Cases for Equivalency will be considered);
• Early Childhood Education diploma an asset;
• 1-3 years ’ experience working with children 0-4 years of age ;
• Personable, Reliable, flexible, and adaptable;
• Experience with children with special needs is an asset;
• Experience with diverse families and children;
• Knowledge of child development, theory and practice;
• Willingness to work with a team and independently;

• Computer skills an asset;
