Position Overview

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health), patient & staff safety is a priority and a shared responsibility. Continuous improvement in quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Reporting and Responsibilities

Reports to the Manager or designate. Under the general direction of the treating Staff Therapist, the incumbent carries out individual and group therapeutic, recreational, and physical activities to improve and maintain the functional abilities of patients and residents. Responsibilities include providing direction to volunteers during activity programs, transporting patients and residents to and from treatment or activity areas, and reporting observations on progress to the Therapist.

Qualifications

Education, Training, and Experience: Completion of a recognized Rehabilitation Assistant Program or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Skills and Abilities

• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
