Job summary

Vancouver Island Health Authority (VIHA) is seeking a Rehabilitation Assistant to support patient and resident programs under the supervision of the Staff Therapist. You will lead individual and group activities to improve and maintain functional abilities.

This casual, multi-site role requires strong communication, organization skills, and mobility to transport patients as needed. Travel between VIHA sites may be required. Shifts are 08:00–16:00, as required.

Qualifications

• Candidates must meet the education, training and experience requirements.
• Skills must include effective communication and physical capability.

Responsibilities

• Carry out individual and group therapeutic, recreational, and physical activities to improve and maintain patients' and residents' functional abilities.
• Provide direction to volunteers during activity programs.
• Transport patients and residents to and from treatment or activity areas.
• Report observations on progress to the Therapist.

Job Description

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health), patient & staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at VIHA; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Reports to the Manager or designate. Under the general direction of the treating Staff Therapist, carries out individual and group therapeutic, recreational, and physical activities to improve and maintain the functional abilities of patients and residents. Performs related functions such as providing direction to volunteers during activity programs, transporting patients and residents to and from treatment or activity area, and reporting observations on progress to Therapist.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Training And Experience

Completion of a recognized Rehabilitation Assistant Program or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
