Job summary

The British Columbia Utilities Commission (BCUC) is seeking talented professionals who are passionate about public service and shaping the future of energy in British Columbia. You will contribute to regulatory decisions that affect millions of residents while working on complex energy and utility issues in a fully in-person office located in downtown Vancouver.

Responsibilities

• Engage with evolving regulatory matters arising from developments in energy markets, technology, trade, AI and geopolitical challenges.
• Perform in-depth reviews of applications from regulated utilities and entities.
• Provide technical expertise to our Commissioners.
• Draft various written documents to share the BCUC's and regulated entities' activities for internal and public use.
• Analyze evidence and prepare issue briefs to support Commissioners in preparing legally binding decisions.
• Collaborate with colleagues who are subject matter experts in a variety of disciplines.
• Manage multiple files and projects simultaneously in a dynamic regulatory environment.

What You’ll Do

BC's regulatory landscape is evolving with advances in areas such as climate change, the energy transition, electricity demand. At the BCUC, you have the opportunity to address these issues across a broad regulatory mandate and contribute thoughtful, evidence-based solutions during this pivotal period for the province.

Specific tasks include:

• Engage with evolving regulatory matters arising from developments in energy markets, technology, trade, artificial intelligence and geopolitical challenges;
• Perform in-depth reviews of applications from regulated utilities and entities
• Provide technical expertise to our Commissioners;
• Draft various written documents to share the BCUC's and regulated entities' activities for internal and public use;

Compensation

Candidates may bring different combinations of education, professional qualifications, experience and expertise. We will consider applicants at different career stages.

• Expected Salary Range for entry level candidates: $75,000 - $85,000 per annum.
• Expected Salary Range for intermediate candidates with 5+ years of experience in the energy and/or regulatory sectors: $94,000-$120,000 per annum.
• Exact offering will be commensurate with a candidate’s education, experience, and internal parity.

We offer a total comprehensive compensation package including salary, a defined benefit pension plan, medical and dental coverage, health spending account, wellness program, a starting vacation entitlement of approximately four weeks per year, and an earned days off program.
