Job summary

Law Society of Ontario in Toronto conducts investigations into professional conduct, licensing, and related regulatory matters. You will gather, analyze evidence, prepare comprehensive reports, and provide domain expertise across multiple law disciplines.

The role requires an LLB/JD with a class L1 license and at least five years of relevant experience. French is an asset. You will work in a collaborative environment emphasizing policy development, confidentiality, and strong documentation.

Qualifications

  • Requires an LLB or JD and a class L1 license with the Law Society of Ontario.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in areas of law such as real estate, family, wills and estates, civil or criminal litigation, or administrative law.
  • French language skills are an asset.
  • Knowledge of the Law Society’s mandate, policies and relevant legislation.
  • Strong interviewing, investigation and case management skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and ability to apply technology in a legal/regulatory setting.

Responsibilities

  • Investigates serious matters including misconduct, licensing, capacity and unauthorized practice; develops case plans and prepares investigative reports.
  • Identifies risk and conducts ongoing risk analysis; handles evidence storage and continuity.
  • Interviews witnesses and prepares statements; provides legal advice on case preparation for regulatory proceedings.
  • Advises on policy development or revisions; collaborates with management to standardize practices and procedures.
  • Manages a multi-issue caseload with confidentiality and professional communication.
