Job summary

The College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia (CPSBC) seeks an experienced investigator to work with case administrators and managers on health-profession conduct and clinical complaint investigations under the HPOA. This role requires handling complex files, creating investigative plans, and coordinating interviews.

You will review documents, maintain complete files, and support decision writers and medical reviewers drafting final reports.

Qualifications

  • Five years of investigative experience within a legal environment, preferably in a self-regulatory or administrative law setting.
  • Knowledge of CPSBC practice standards, Health Professions and Occupations Act, and related legislation.
  • Education and experience in trauma-informed interviews and investigations.
  • Experience with decision writing and familiarity with legal and medical terminology.
  • Working knowledge of administrative law principles and procedural fairness.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Create investigative plans for matters triaged to the Investigation Committee; update plans as information arrives.
  • Review responses and documents; guide next steps in the process for case administrators.
  • Ensure investigation files are complete and organized before disposition.
  • Review licensee files for prior complaints to identify patterns of behaviour.
  • Coordinate information gathering from non-licensee parties where appropriate.
  • Conduct or coordinate interviews to clarify allegations; document interactions in files.
  • Draft final investigation reports and related correspondence.
  • Collaborate with managers to ensure efficient processing of complaint files.
