Job summary

Horizon School Division is seeking an Educational Assistant for D.A. Ferguson Middle School in Taber, Alberta.

This 28.5-hour weekly assignment runs Monday through Friday, supporting grade 6–8 students in a team setting, with duties that include personal care, supervision, safety, and promoting positive interactions. The successful candidate will be patient, dependable and adaptable, and will contribute to a respectful, supportive learning environment while adhering to confidentiality and school

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Encourage students to develop and maintain positive interaction.
• Maintain confidentiality and provide supportive, enthusiastic commitment to students.
• Provide personal care including toileting, diapering, feeding, dressing and grooming as needed.
• Attend to physical needs including lifting, positioning and range of motion per staff direction.
• Ensure student safety, supervise students, sanitize and store equipment, and assist with students’ life skills tools.

D.A. Ferguson Middle School is a Grade 6-8 school. Our 33 staff provide educational services to approx. 296 students from the Town of Taber and surrounding area.

Hours of work:Monday - Thursday 8:24 a.m. - 3:20 p.m. & Friday 8:24 a.m. – 12:05 p.m.

Assignment includes:D. A. Ferguson Middle School is currently seeking an assistant to work approximately 28.5 hours a week, Monday to Friday. The candidate must be interested in working with grade 6 to 8 students in a team setting and have a positive attitude. Other desired qualities include patience, kindness, dependability and the ability to adapt quickly to a fast paced environment. • Ensures the safety of students in the school and community, which includes maintaining close supervision of students, ensuring studentequipment is sanitized and put away, retrieving students who attemptto leave their learningenvironment, calming and/or restraining students engaged in challenging behaviours; supervising and assisting studentswho utilize a variety of life skill tools (i.e., scissors, cooking utensils, etc.).
• Maintains collegial relationships with the students' learning team.
