Calgary Couples Counselling Centre
Suite 200, 1209 – 59 Ave SE
There are many places where an early-career psychologist can begin building a private-practice caseload. We want to offer something more.
Calgary Couples Counselling Centre is looking for a psychologist who is genuinely interested in becoming an excellent couples therapist—and who wants to join a clinical environment where learning, consultation, feedback, and professional development are part of the culture.
We are looking for someone who is curious, motivated, clinically thoughtful, open to feedback, and excited about developing expertise in working with couples and relationships.
We are open to both Registered Psychologists and Registered Provisional Psychologists. For the right provisional or early-career Registered Psychologist, we see this as an opportunity not simply to fill a caseload, but to develop a specialization and build a long-term professional home.
Previous couples-therapy experience or training in approaches such as Emotionally Focused Therapy or the Gottman Method is certainly an asset—but potential and motivation are important to us as well.
A strong clinician who has primarily worked with individuals but is serious about developing expertise in couples therapy is encouraged to apply.
Couples therapy is difficult work. It requires more than learning a model or completing a weekend workshop. Therapists must learn to manage two therapeutic alliances simultaneously, recognize relationship patterns as they unfold, regulate escalating interactions, work beneath anger and defensiveness, facilitate emotional depth, maintain session leadership, and help partners actually interact differently with one another.
Those abilities develop through deliberate practice over time.
At Calgary Couples Counselling Centre, therapist development is an important part of what we do.
Our associates participate in ongoing clinical training and consultation focused specifically on the challenges of doing excellent couples therapy. Our internal training currently includes areas such as:
Our approach draws from established couples-therapy traditions—including Emotionally Focused Therapy, Gottman-informed work, differentiation-based approaches, and other evidence-informed relationship interventions—while emphasizing the clinical capacities therapists need in the room regardless of theoretical orientation.
As an associate who is an Independent Contractor, you will:
As your experience develops, there may also be opportunities to develop additional areas of specialization that complement relationship work, such as trauma, sexuality and intimacy, infidelity and betrayal, addictions, parenting, blended families, mental health issues, or other areas that genuinely interest you.
Building a private practice alone requires clinicians to become therapists, marketers, administrators, receptionists, bill collectors, website managers, and business owners all at once.
We want our clinicians to be able to put more of their energy into becoming excellent therapists.
Our associates benefit from:
Our office is located in southeast Calgary in a professional building with bright, updated offices and substantial natural light.
We are particularly interested in hearing from strong provisional and early-career Registered Psychologists who already have solid clinical foundations and want to continue developing their skills and expertise.
You may already have meaningful counselling experience but still be relatively early in your work with couples. Or perhaps you've recently become registered and are looking for a practice where continued learning and clinical development remain an important part of your professional life.
We're looking for clinicians who are thoughtful about their work, eager to learn, receptive to feedback, willing to stretch themselves clinically, and serious about becoming increasingly capable of handling the complexity and intensity of couples therapy.
For provisional psychologists, we also recognize that the provisional period can be an especially important period of professional development. Supervision arrangements and availability will be discussed with provisional candidates as part of the application process.
This probably isn't the right position if you are primarily looking for somewhere to pick up a small number of occasional clients.
We are not trying to build the largest possible roster of therapists.
We are interested in developing long‑term relationships with clinicians who want to grow with the practice, become excellent at what they do, and make a meaningful contribution to the people they serve and the colleagues around them.
Associates are compensated on a percentage basis, with compensation determined by factors including experience, registration status, and caseload.
We are open to discussing different starting caseloads, but preference will be given to candidates who want to develop a substantial and sustainable practice over time.
Some evening availability is important, particularly while establishing a caseload, because this is when many couples seek appointments.
Specific expectations, compensation structure, supervision arrangements where applicable, and opportunities for growth will be discussed transparently during the interview process.
Calgary Couples Counselling Centre is an established Calgary psychology practice with a particular focus on couples, relationships, and strengthening connection.
We believe excellent couples therapy requires therapists who never stop developing.
That means creating a clinic where clinicians can maintain professional autonomy while also having colleagues around them who care about providing quality care: people with whom they can discuss difficult sessions, learn new approaches, examine what isn't working, celebrate breakthroughs, and continue getting better.
If that sounds like the kind of therapist you want to become, we'd like to meet you.
