Job summary

Homewood Ravensview is seeking a Registered Psychiatric Nurse or Registered Nurse to join a start-up facility focused on high-quality, patient-centered care in a team-based environment.

The role involves comprehensive mental health and addictions care, assessments, counseling, and collaboration with physicians and the interdisciplinary team to develop individualized treatment plans. Prior BC nursing registration and CPR certification are required.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years of recent experience in mental health and/or substance use settings.
• Current practicing registration with the BC College of Nursing Professionals (BCCNP).
• Current First Aid/CPR Certification for health care providers (Level 1 or greater).
• Knowledge of mental disorders, addictions, and recovery principles, including suicide prevention and emergency response.

Job description

We are currently seeking Registered Psychiatric Nurse or Registered Nurse. This means, we need your creativity, flexibility, collaboration, and passion to help develop and deliver high quality, patient-centered care.

As part of an interdisciplinary team the Registered Psychiatric Nurse or Registered Nurse provides direct health care services to patients presenting with a wide variety of complex addictions and mental health issues. The nurse performs physical, addiction, and mental status assessments; refers patients to the physician for further examination; and administers prescribed treatments and medications. The nurse also observes, monitors, evaluates, and documents patient progress, symptoms, and behavioral changes, and performs a variety of health care interventions. The nurse is expected to provide counselling, education, and support to individual patients as well as in a group therapy environment using a motivational and health promotion approach. The nurse works collaboratively with other members of the interdisciplinary team, the patient, families, and the community.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Implement the principles and practices of a patient and family centered recovery model in mental health and addictions treatment.
• Conduct comprehensive mental health and addiction risk assessments, formulate treatment and discharge plans and provide crisis intervention.
• Perform Detox assessments.
• Communicate and collaborate with patients and families about health findings, diagnosis, treatment, self-care, and prognosis.
• Assess patients daily for care needs and follow up; consult with doctors and clinical team members about patient care.
• Collaborate with patients and other health professionals to identify and assess trends and patterns that have implications for patients, families, and communities.
• Assess and recognize population health trends; ability to plan and implement strategies for population based prevention.
• Analyze and synthesize all available information for the development of an individualized treatment plan in collaboration with patients and families.
• Identify and respond appropriately to legal and ethical issues that may arise in patient care.
• Provide safe and respectful health care planning and direction to maximize patient health and wellbeing.
• Develop and implement evidence-based strategies to improve care and participate in creating and evaluating health care policies.
• Conduct day-to-day care delivery to patients and administer medications.
• Act in the nurse in charge position as required.
• Mentor and act as a preceptor for students as required.

What We’re Looking For

• Bachelor or Diploma from an accredited Psychiatric Nursing college or Bachelor of Nursing from an accredited nursing college.
• Two (2) years recent related experience in a mental health and/or substance use setting.
• Current practicing registration with the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals (BCCNP).
• Current First Aid/CPR Certification for health care providers (Level 1 or greater).
• Comprehensive knowledge of mental disorders, addictions, and concurrent disorders, and the treatment and principles of recovery in mental illness and addictions, including suicide prevention, treatment, and emergency response.
• Comprehensive knowledge of Psychosocial Rehabilitation methodology, chemical dependency, addictions treatment, psychopharmacology (indications and side-effects), and psychotherapeutic and counseling skills.
• Knowledge of evidence-based best practices and issues in the care and treatment of mental disorders, addictions, and concurrent disorders.
• Knowledge of the Mental Health Act as it applies to the rights and obligations of patients.
• Knowledge of community, social, and mental health resources.
• Advanced assessment and diagnostic reasoning skills.
• Ability to effectively manage conflict situations and aggressive behaviour and use non-violent crisis intervention and behavioural management techniques.

Pay range for this position is $41.42- $54.52/hour.
