Position Summary

The Mental Health & Addictions Program Extended Assessment Unit assists with patient care and flow, located adjacent to the emergency room. We seek a passionate RPN interested in mental health care, working in a dynamic clinical environment. The role involves providing person-centered, recovery-guided psychiatric and mental health nursing care, working with a team experienced in psychiatric issues. The patient population includes individuals with severe mental health issues and psychosocial crises, with care aligned to the Canadian Standards of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing. The RPN will work as part of an interprofessional clinical team, contributing to a safe environment for all.

Position Requirements

  • Registered Practical Nurse with College of Nurses of Ontario certification
  • Post-diploma in Psychiatric Nursing preferred
  • Minimum three years of mental health experience
  • Experience in multidisciplinary collaboration
  • Current Heart Saver and de-escalation certificates
  • Recognized medication administration course
  • Knowledge of mental illnesses, suicidal behaviors, and current practices
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to assess, plan, intervene, and evaluate within scope of practice
  • Knowledge of Mental Health Act, Health Care Consent Act, and Substitute Decisions Act
  • Strong patient teaching skills
  • Application of Family Systems Nursing in patient and family care
  • Good attendance record
