Position Overview
The Registered Practical Nurse reports to the Director of Care and oversees all aspects of resident-focused care. Responsibilities include supervising healthcare team members, acting as a resource advocate, and promoting the home’s values and philosophy.
Responsibilities
- Develop and modify care plans based on residents’ individual needs and health changes.
- Collaborate with healthcare personnel, agencies, and families.
- Maintain good relationships with staff, residents, families, and the public.
- Supervise unit activities and assume charge as required.
- Monitor performance and conduct evaluations for PSWs and RPNs.
- Assign and evaluate work duties of PSWs.
- Lead the unit in problem-solving and quality care delivery.
- Ensure care aligns with the resident Bill of Rights.
- Understand and contribute to quality indicators and improvement initiatives.
- Manage supplies and equipment efficiently.
- Listen actively to residents and families, resolving concerns per policies.
- Conduct shift rounds and process physician orders.
- Administer medications and treatments according to policies and standards.
- Maintain accurate records and report health status changes.
- Complete assessments and develop/update care plans collaboratively.
- Follow regulations on mandatory reporting and incident management.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Current Certificate of Competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario or equivalent registration in another Canadian jurisdiction.
- Basic CPR certification.
- Experience in long-term care is an asset.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with interdisciplinary teams.
- Knowledge of RAI-MDS; AIS certification preferred, or must be completed within one year.
- Focus on compassionate, person-centered care.
- Willingness to obtain a Vulnerable Sector Check and meet health requirements.
- Two supervisory references.
