As a member of an inter-professional team and working under full scope of practice, the role of the Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) at Providence Care is to deliver safe, effective, patient-centred care to assigned patients in a non-acute setting as outlined by hospital policies and procedures and the Standards of Nursing Practice of the College of Nurses of Ontario. The RPN will assist patients and their caregivers to manage clinical conditions and transitions and enhance quality of life by meeting the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs of each person.
Skills And Qualifications Required
- Active, unrestricted license to practice with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Current CPR certificate
- College certificate required, diploma preferred
- Medication Certificate dated after 1985 which meets the requirements of the Ontario College of Nurses, if graduated before 1985
Position Responsibilities
- Demonstrates competencies and skills that are essential for the delivery of safe and effective patient care
- Assists in evaluating the health status of patients with complexity of care needs that are well defined and established, with predictable outcomes and manageable responses and provides direct care
- Shares in establishing priorities for care including preventive, therapeutic, and rehabilitative aspects
- Advocates for patients and their caregivers, recognizing them as major decision makers
- Seeks assistance when knowledge, judgment or skill are insufficient or beyond the scope of practice for a Registered Practical Nurse, or when patient or environmental factors prohibit the delivery of safe and effective care
- Evaluates the outcome of patient care plan and modifies the plan based on patient responses using professional judgment and reports information with key stakeholders as needed
