Job summary

Scarborough Health Network is seeking a Registered Practical Nurse to support the 4C Surgery (BIR) unit. The role is 7 months in duration, part time, with shifts across multiple sites.

You will provide high-quality nursing care per professional standards and SHN policies, serving diverse patients and families. The successful candidate will be an RPN in good standing with Ontario College of Nurses, with acute surgical experience and strong teamwork, communication, and patient teaching skills.

Qualifications

• Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as Registered Practical Nurse in good standing.
• Surgical experience in an acute care setting would be an asset.
• BCLS/a current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification.
• Ability to work independently and manage a busy workload.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary team environment.

Job Description

Reporting to the Manager, you will be responsible for providing excellent care to a diverse patient population within this unit. As a Registered Practical Nurse, you will practice according to the current standards of practice of the College of Nurses of Ontario, the Standards of Nursing Practice, policies and procedures of Scarborough Health Network. You will also provide high quality nursing care to patients and their families, based on the philosophy and conceptual framework of Nursing of Scarborough Health Network. Please appreciate that this is a multi-site position, the successful applicant may be scheduled at either location or be assigned to various surgical units depending on the needs of the program. You may be scheduled at the General or Birchmount campus based on departmental needs.

Requirements

• Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as Registered Practical Nurse in good standing
• Previous or current surgical experience in an acute care setting
• Current BCLS
• Ability to work independently and to carry a busy workload
• Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary team environment, with good organizational skills
• Demonstrated excellence in patient teaching and patient assessment
• Demonstrated ability to provide patient centred care
• Demonstrated punctuality in attendance
• Ability to work independently within a Total Patient Care modality
• Demonstrates excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
• Demonstrates a commitment to customer service when dealing with patients, colleagues and volunteers and other members of the community and public
