Job summary

Scarborough Health Network (SHN) is seeking a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) for 4C Surgery on a 7‑month fixed-term, part‑time basis. The role involves delivering high-quality nursing care, aligned with the standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario and SHN policies, across multiple surgical units.

The successful candidate will hold current RPN registration in Ontario, have surgical experience in an acute care setting, and possess BCLS, with excellent communication and teamwork skills for

Qualifications

• Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as Registered Practical Nurse in good standing.
• Previous or current surgical experience in an acute care setting.
• Current BCLS.
• Ability to work independently and manage a busy workload.

Job Description

Reporting to the Manager, you will be responsible for providing excellent care to a diverse patient population within this unit. As a Registered Practical Nurse, you will practice according to the current standards of practice of the College of Nurses of Ontario, the Standards of Nursing Practice, policies and procedures of Scarborough Health Network. You will also provide high quality nursing care to patients and their families, based on the philosophy and conceptual framework of Nursing of Scarborough Health Network. Please appreciate that this is a multi-site position, the successful applicant may be scheduled at either location or be assigned to various surgical units depending on the needs of the program. You may be scheduled at the General or Birchmount campus based on departmental needs.

Requirements

• Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as Registered Practical Nurse in good standing
• Previous or current surgical experience in an acute care setting
• Current BCLS
• Ability to work independently and to carry a busy workload
• Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary team environment, with good organizational skills
• Demonstrated excellence in patient teaching and patient assessment
• Demonstrated ability to provide patient centred care
• Demonstrated punctuality in attendance
• Ability to work independently within a Total Patient Care modality
• Demonstrates excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
