Neighbourly Pharmacy is looking for a full-timeRegistered Pharmacy Technician to join our amazing team atNeighbourly BC Central Fill Solutions in Burnaby, BC.

COMPOUNDING Responsibilities:

General Responsibilities

  • Ensure all compounding activities are performed in compliance with NAPRA Model Standards for Pharmacy Compounding (non-sterile and sterile), relevant provincial regulations, and internal SOPs.
  • Maintain current knowledge of compounding best practices, including formula preparation, documentation, quality assurance, and cleanroom behavior.
  • Accurately complete final checking for all compounding activities, including calculations, lot numbers, and preparation records, in accordance with regulatory and quality standards.
  • Participate in the regular review and update of compounding formulas, master formulation records, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Prepare non-sterile compounded medications (e.g., creams, ointments, suspensions, capsules) according to approved master formulation records.
  • Perform accurate calculations and measurements using appropriate compounding equipment and techniques.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the non-sterile compounding area and ensure equipment is calibrated, cleaned, and maintained as per SOPs.
  • Apply beyond-use dating (BUD) and labeling in accordance with stability data and regulatory guidelines.
  • Perform and document required verification and quality checks, including final product inspection for consistency and accuracy.

Sterile Compounding (including hazardous and non-hazardous preparations)

  • Participate in sterile product validation, media fill testing, and glove fingertip testing as required by quality assurance protocols.

Inventory and Equipment Management

  • Monitor compounding ingredient inventory, including checking for expired or soon-to-expire ingredients, and alerting procurement staff as needed.
  • Ensure accurate recording of lot numbers and expiry dates for traceability and recall procedures.
  • Participate in the calibration and routine maintenance of compounding equipment (e.g., balances, mixers, filtration systems).

Safety and Quality Assurance

  • Adhere to all occupational health and safety guidelines, including the use of PPE and safe handling of hazardous materials.
  • Report deviations, incidents, or out-of-specification results promptly and assist in investigations and corrective actions.
  • Participate in internal audits, inspections, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.

Physical Verification of Blister Packs:

  • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of blister packs.
  • Perform visual inspections to maintain quality standards.

Quality Control for Packaging and Shipment:

  • Verify that blister packs are correctly labeled and packaged.
  • Monitor adherence to quality guidelines during the production process.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Collaborate with pharmacists, quality assurance personnel, and other pharmacy staff to ensure timely and accurate preparation of compounded medications.
  • Provide training and mentorship to pharmacy assistants and junior staff in compounding techniques and compliance.
  • Maintain clear and professional communication within the team and escalate issues when appropriate.

Qualifications:

  • Licensed and in good standing with the College of Pharmacists of British Columbia .
  • Familiarity with the Synmed automation system or equivalent experience with other automation systems is advantageous.
  • Prior work experience in a central fill setting or long-term care pharmacy is preferred.
  • Compounding experience is an asset.
  • Excellent oral and written communication abilities.
  • Strong leadership skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
