The Complex Care and Recovery Program is currently seeking two (2)part-time, permanent Registered Nurse to work in the Structured Observation and Treatment Unit and Women’s Secure Forensic Unit. As a member of an interprofessional team, you will provide client-centered psychiatric and general nursing care. In addition, you will ensure the security and safety of the inpatient unit, and practice in accordance with professional regulatory standards, CAMH policies and procedures, the CAMH Practice Model of Care, and theCanadian Standards of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing Practice. You will be expected to perform client assessments, develop, implement and evaluate the interprofessional plan of care for clients with a wide range of mental illnesses, substance abuse issues, and who may be involved in varying phases of the criminal justice system. You will liaise with internal and external services and community agencies to coordinate care for clients. You will be expected to utilize critical thinking, a problem solving process and customer service in your approach to care and service delivery. You will be able to work with clients from diverse populations; contribute to program development; participate in clinical supervision; provide education support and supervision to students and participate in the research activities of the program. You will participate in the preparation of reports and implement the unit’s risk management processes. Your skills include the ability to make behavioral observations, perform ongoing assessments such as physical and mental status assessments, monitor client’s response to pharmaceutical and care interventions, document, and effectively communicate with other team members. You will have sound knowledge of crisis intervention, addiction issues, trauma-informed care, forensic psychiatry, risk assessments, as well as severe and persistent mental illness. Your strengths include the ability to perform assessments, develop, implement and evaluate interprofessional client centered care plansand you will have an understanding of how to develop and implement forensic assessment plans and an understanding of the forensic legal and health systems.You will support and contribute to a healthy workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements.This position involves shift rotation and weekend work. This position is located at the Queen Street Site.
The successful candidate must be a member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario. A current B.C.L.S. (CPR) certificate is also required. Preference will be given to candidates who possess or are currently pursuing a BScN and CNA certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing.You will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills enabling you to develop the Nurse-Client relationship and work within a collaborative and diverse inter-professional team. Effective leadership, decision-making, organizational and problem solving skills are required. You have demonstrated ability to intervene effectively in clinical situations requiring the management of disturbed behaviour. Psychiatric/mental health nursing experience with forensic patients and knowledge of risk assessment tools are assets. The ability to work with clients of diverse cultural and social backgrounds is necessary. Computer literacy is required. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language would be an asset.
