Reporting to the Clinical Manager, Community Mental Health and Addictions (CMHA), the Registered Nurse (RN) will treat patients in the Urgent Care Clinic who have been referred by Central Referral/Intake for an Urgent Choice appointment. Patients who present to the IWK Emergency Department in crisis and who do not require admission, but whose presentation was serious enough that the patient or family could not be fully stabilized with the brief time available for an emergency assessment may also be referred to the Urgent Care Clinic. While presentation and symptoms will vary, those who will be seen in the Clinic will usually be individuals or families who have lost their ability to use effective problem-solving or coping skills, and present as a significant risk to themselves or others, if not seen within a few days. The RN utilizes brief, solution-focused interventions to de-escalate and stabilize the crisis. The RN will normally provide between 1 and 4 sessions. Patients may be referred to other services and those requiring ongoing treatment will be transferred to IWK MHA services or referred to private services.
Monday to Friday; 7.5 hour shifts; 0830-1630 (with some evening work if required).
