Job Description

Mount Sinai Hospital's Surgical Oncology Unit offers a rewarding opportunity to join our team at the forefront of cancer care. You will provide specialized nursing care to patients undergoing post-surgical interventions for various types of cancer.

About this team

We are a 26-bed surgical oncology unit caring for patients post-operation for GI, breast, or urology surgeries. Admissions come via Emergency, ICU, and PACU. Typical nurse-to-patient ratios are 4:1 on days and 6:1 on nights. Our patient population includes surgical oncology cases and others from general surgery, palliative care, and inflammatory bowel disease.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct assessments and provide post-op care
  • Administer medications
  • Maintain lines and monitor drains, stomas, TPN
  • Provide education to patients and families
Job Requirements

Mandatory:

  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
  • Graduate of a CNO-approved bachelor’s nursing program or equivalent

Preferred:

  • Baccalaureate degree from a CNO-approved program (final-year students considered)
  • Specialty certificate in oncology
  • At least 1 year recent adult medical-surgical nursing experience with skills in ostomy care, TPN, and chest tubes
Skills and Knowledge
  • Excellent teaching skills incorporating adult learning principles
  • Knowledge in pain management, skin and wound care, IV therapy, TPN
