Registered Nurse (RN) Full Time/Part-Time/Casual

The RN reports to the Director of Care and oversees all aspects of resident-focused care, providing supervision, leadership, and education to the healthcare team. Acts as a resource and advocate for residents, families, and staff, promoting the home's values and philosophy.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and modify care plans based on residents’ needs and health status changes
  • Liaise with healthcare personnel, agencies, and families
  • Maintain good relationships with staff, residents, families, and the public
  • Supervise activities on the unit, take charge as needed
  • Monitor performance and evaluate PSWs and RPNs
  • Direct, assign, and evaluate work of PSWs
  • May be in charge of the home as required, using leadership skills to resolve problems
  • Ensure care delivery aligns with the resident Bill of Rights
  • Understand and participate in quality indicators and improvement initiatives
  • Manage nursing supplies and equipment efficiently
  • Listen to residents and families, resolve concerns according to policies
  • Conduct unit rounds at shift start and end
  • Process physician orders, administer medications, document care, and report errors
  • Maintain accurate records in compliance with legislation and policies
  • Assess health status changes and communicate with SDM or interdisciplinary team
  • Complete health assessments, develop/update care plans collaboratively
  • Follow protocols for mandatory reporting and incident management
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Current Certificate of Competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario or equivalent registration in another Canadian jurisdiction
  • Basic CPR certification
  • Experience in long-term care preferred
  • Ability to work with interdisciplinary teams
  • Strong communication skills
  • Knowledge of RAI-MDS; AIS certification or willingness to complete within one year
  • Focus on empathetic, person-centered care
  • Legal requirements including Vulnerable Sector Check and recent TB test or X-ray
  • Two supervisory references
