Position Overview

The Registered Nurse (RN), reporting to the Director of Care, oversees all aspects of resident-focused care. Responsibilities include providing direct supervision, leadership, and education to the healthcare team, acting as a resource and advocate for residents, families, and staff, and promoting the home's values, goals, and philosophy.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and modify care plans based on residents’ individual health needs and changes in health status.
  • Coordinate with healthcare professionals, agencies, and families.
  • Maintain positive relationships with staff, residents, families, and the public.
  • Supervise activities on the unit and assume charge as required.
  • Monitor performance and conduct evaluations for PSWs and RPNs.
  • Assign, direct, and evaluate the work of PSWs.
  • Lead the unit, identify problems, and solve issues effectively.
  • Ensure care delivery aligns with the resident Bill of Rights.
  • Understand and contribute to quality indicators and improvement initiatives.
  • Manage supplies and equipment efficiently.
  • Listen actively to residents and families, addressing concerns appropriately.
  • Conduct rounds at shift start and end.
  • Process physician orders, administer medications, and document care accurately.
  • Maintain comprehensive records in compliance with legislation and policies.
  • Assess health status changes, communicate with SDM or POA and team.
  • Complete assessments, develop, and update care plans collaboratively.
  • Adhere to mandatory reporting and incident protocols.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Current Certificate of Competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario or equivalent registration in another Canadian jurisdiction.
  • Basic CPR certification.
  • Experience in long-term care preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively with an interdisciplinary team.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Knowledge of RAI-MDS; certification required within one year if not already certified.
  • Focus on empathetic, person-centered care.
  • Ability to meet legal requirements and promote resident rights.
  • Current Vulnerable Sector Check and TB testing results.
  • Two supervisory references.
