Job summary

Vancouver Coastal Health’s Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) at UBC Hospital in Vancouver, BC seeks a Registered Nurse to provide care to critically ill patients in a post‑anesthetic setting. You will work within a client/family‑centred model and collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to support life‑support patients and recovery cohorts.

You will uphold BC nursing standards, participate in committees, and contribute to quality and safety initiatives.

Qualifications

• Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
• Completion of a recognized critical care nursing program or two years' recent, related critical care experience.
• Broad knowledge of nursing theory and practice within a client/family centred model of care.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to high-risk critically ill clients with unpredictable outcomes attached to life-support equipment.
• Care for clients in post-anasthetic recovery as part of an interdisciplinary team.
• Consult, confer and collaborate with other health care professionals to ensure quality care.
• Demonstrate leadership in nursing practice and maintain clinical competence.

Come work as a Registered Nurse with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) at the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) at UBC Hospital in Vancouver, BC!

Within the context of a client and family centred care model and in accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice for registered nurses, Code of Ethics, and the established mission, vision, values, objectives and policies of Vancouver Coastal Health, provides nursing care to high risk critically ill clients with unpredictable outcomes attached to life-support equipment, and/or clients in post-anaesthetic recovery, both by working independently and as a member of a interdisciplinary team. Enhances quality of life from the perspective of the client/family. Consults, confers, and collaborates with other health care givers. Demonstrates expertise and leadership in nursing practice. Maintains and advances clinical competence. Participates on designated hospital committees/teams and approved research projects as assigned.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.

As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks. For all new hires and appointments to Vancouver Coastal Health, you will be asked to provide this information as part of the onboarding process.

• Demonstrated ability in nursing practice to assess and manage critical and life-threatening situations.
• Demonstrated ability to respond immediately and appropriately to sudden emergencies.
• Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize workload.
