About the Role

The Registered Nurse (RN) reports to the Director of Care or designate. The RN is a team leader who coordinates and supervises direct resident care activities, ensuring standards, regulations, policies, and procedures are followed to provide holistic, respectful, and dignified care.

Responsibilities

  • Assess residents’ needs and implement individualized care plans.
  • Support LPNs in reviewing and updating care plans and provide clinical decision-making support.
  • Administer medications and treatments according to standards and regulations.
  • Manage community wound care, assist LPNs with assessments and treatments, and coordinate referrals to specialists.
  • Provide direct resident care as needed and collaborate with other departments to ensure quality care.
  • Liaise with physicians, community agencies, families, visitors, and volunteers.
  • Support the move-in process and follow community policies.
  • Attend Care Conferences in the absence of the DOC or designate.
  • Ensure residents’ rights are observed and promote wellness.
  • Act as First Aid attendant and ensure proper documentation of injuries.
  • Maintain a safe environment through accident prevention, emergency procedures, safe use of equipment, and infection control.
  • Supervise care staff, assign duties, and provide clinical direction in the absence of the DOC.
  • Participate in clinical on-call duties and community audits.
  • Contribute to staff orientation, provide education, and support staff evaluations.
  • Participate in community programs, meetings, and educational sessions.
  • Maintain confidentiality of documents and records.
  • Perform other duties as required.

    Qualifications and Skills

    • Graduate of an approved Nursing program and current license with BCCNM as an RN.
    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing is an asset.
    • Valid Occupational First Aid Level 1 and CPR certifications.
    • Successful completion of annual RAI competency testing.
    • Experience in long-term care is an asset.
    • Pass a vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check as per provincial guidelines.
    • Proficiency in English and ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
    • Computer skills including Word, Excel, Outlook.
    • Good health and physical ability to perform duties including lifting, bending, standing, and walking.
