Job summary

Spire Clare Park Hospital in Farnham is seeking a Pre-Assessment Nurse to join the Pre-Operative Assessment team. You will be responsible for comprehensive pre-operative assessments, ensuring patients are prepared and informed prior to surgery, and supporting the surgical pathway with safe and personalised care.

The role requires current NMC registration, acute healthcare experience, and strong clinical assessment skills.

Qualifications

• Current NMC registration with no restrictions on practice.
• Experience in a Pre-Assessment setting is preferred.
• Acute healthcare experience.
• Strong assessment and clinical decision-making skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Confidence working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Good IT and electronic patient record skills.

Responsibilities

• Conducting comprehensive pre-operative assessments.
• Triaging and assessing patients to ensure suitability for surgery.
• Identifying and escalating potential clinical concerns.
• Supporting safe, personalised patient care throughout the surgical pathway.
• Providing clear information and reassurance to patients and families.
• Working collaboratively with consultants, anaesthetists and multidisciplinary teams.
• Contributing to quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.

The Role

As a Pre-Assessment Nurse, you'll help ensure patients are clinically prepared and fully informed ahead of their procedure.

Key responsibilities include:

• Conducting comprehensive pre-operative assessments
• Triaging and assessing patients to ensure suitability for surgery
• Identifying and escalating potential clinical concerns
• Supporting safe, personalised patient care throughout the surgical pathway
• Providing clear information and reassurance to patients and families
• Working collaboratively with consultants, anaesthetists and multidisciplinary teams
• Contributing to quality improvement and patient safety initiatives

About You

We're looking for a nurse who is passionate about delivering exceptional patient care and thrives in a collaborative environment. You'll have:

• Current NMC registration with no restrictions on practice
• Previous experience within a Pre-Assessment setting
• Acute healthcare experience
• Strong assessment and clinical decision-making skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
• Confidence working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Good IT and electronic patient record skills

Desirable:

• Phlebotomy, venepuncture and ECG competency
• Pre-Operative Assessment Association qualification or training
