Are you a motivated Registered Nurse eager to expand your clinical expertise and take on a new challenge in Operating Room (OR)? This 12‑montheducational employment opportunity is designed for you! We are seeking curious, engaged and enthusiastic RNs who are ready to grow through a training program at St. Mary's Hospital, OR. Over one year, you will be immersed in a comprehensiveeducational and clinical development program designed to build confidence and essential OR nursing skills in a safe and collaborative environment. The program offers foundational learning, perioperative course, and clinical training led by experienced clinicians. Asyour skills grow, you will gradually assume greater independence and become an integral member of the OR team. This program provides a 1.0 FTEeducational position for up to 12 months, with all course costs, materials, and benefits covered. The successful applicant will be required to successfully complete the OR educational program. A 12-month return-for-service commitment with Covenant Health, in at least a 0.50 FTE and within the applicable department, is required.Employment is governed by the terms outlined in “Local Condition XI, Addendum C - Re:Educational Opportunities: advanced studies in critical care orientation program, perioperative nursing program, obstetrics or the emergency room orientation program” of the UNA collective agreement. Up to 2 positions available.
The Registered Nurse (RN) participates in nursing assessments and interventions, care planning, implementing prescribed treatments, administering medications, evaluating treatments, and monitoring/documenting treatment progress and patient/resident response. Acting as an advocate, coordinator and liaison for the patient/resident, the RN identifies needs and sets priorities in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team. The RN facilitates patient/resident and family education and discharge planning, and may be required to act in a charge nurse capacity. The RN is responsible for the provision of care in accordance with established standards, and the Mission, Vision, Values, policies and procedures of Covenant Health. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the UNA Collective Agreement.
Graduate of a Registered Nurse program or recognized equivalent required.Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) required.Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required.If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses are also required:1) CRNA Medication Administration Certificate - https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F2) NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification - https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0
Additional Required Qualifications:Successful candidate must be eligible and willing to complete perioperative course. Applicants who are already enrolled in a perioperative course are not eligible for this position. Ability to stand scrubbed for many hours to support the surgical team. Able to wear a lead vest for long cases when required. Ability to accept and incorporate feedback. Ability to perform consistently in a highly organized, rapid moving, complex environment. Demonstrates advanced problem-solving skills, integrating critical thinking and good judgement. Demonstrates communication skills promoting respect and team spirit. This position has an on-call requirement, the successful candidate must be within the Camrose City Limits when on call.
Preferred Qualifications:Minimum 2 years' experience on an inpatient surgical unit, ICU/CCU/ER/PACU.
