Overview

Your Opportunity:
The Rockyview General Hospital (RGH) offers a combined 12 bed Intensive Care Unit & 7 bed Coronary Care Unit, focusing on critically ill medical & surgical patients requiring specialized nursing and medical care. Common diagnoses include respiratory failure, pneumonia, asthma complications, cardiac arrest, sepsis, renal & liver failure, diabetes (DKA), pregnancy-related complications, shock, chest pain, MI, CHF & dysrhythmias. The Registered Nurse (RN) - Critical Care acts as a leader and pivotal member of the interprofessional team. The critical care RN will be the primary caregiver to the patient & family in the critical care setting and is trained in advanced critical care certifications including Code Blue & Outreach (Rapid Response, MET) Team membership. Critical Care nurses collaborate with Physicians, Respiratory Therapists, Physical and Occupational Therapists, Pharmacists & Social Workers to achieve the best patient outcomes through a team-based approach. All adult ICUs in Calgary participate in a provincial critical care orientation program (OPACCA) offering an orientation tailored to learning requirements. As the RN you will maintain professional practice including mentoring of unit staff, ongoing professional development, participation in quality improvement initiatives, assuming charge nurse duties when needed, promoting a positive supportive work environment, and demonstration of professional accountability. You will demonstrate excellence in patient & family centered care, patient advocacy & teaching; a collaborative team-based approach; conflict resolution, critical thinking, problem-solving & decision-making skills; and a commitment to fostering an environment of respect, promoting the values of AHS.

Description

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $39.58 - $54.16 per hour. Upon obtaining a full licence, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Qualifications
  • Required Qualifications: Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification.   • Additional Required Qualifications: Current 2 years of experience as an RN in an acute medical and/or surgical unit. Consideration may be given to candidates who have completed a transitional graduate program within the ICU. ICU trained nurses will be considered above non-ICU trained nurses meeting the acute care minimum. Consideration will be given to candidates currently working in RGH ICU/CCU.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree - Nursing.
  • Current RN working in Critical Care area (ICU/CCU/CVICU).
  • Current certification in ICU basic competencies – CVC, IV direct, ECG & 12 Lead Interpretation, Arterial Lines.
  • Current certification in ICU advanced competencies- Code blue, CCU, CRRT, PA, Outreach, Charge.
  • Experience mentoring/precepting/orientating students and/or new staff.
  • ACLS. Certificate in Adult Critical Care Nursing (ACCN).
